Research by Assist. Prof. Deniz Şarlak Published in Karya Journal of Health Science

The research article by Assist. Prof. Deniz Şarlak, a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences of our university, has been published in the Karya Journal of Health Science. The study examines the intention to quit smoking among deaf and hard-of-hearing young adults from a health psychology perspective.

Titled “Health Perception, Health Belief Model-Based Smoking Cessation Constructs, and Nicotine Dependence as Predictors of Intention to Quit Smoking Among Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Young Adults,” the study investigated the extent to which health perception, Health Belief Model-based smoking cessation constructs, and nicotine dependence predict the intention to quit smoking.

The findings revealed that self-efficacy, perceived benefits of quitting smoking, perceived susceptibility, and perceived severity are particularly important variables associated with the intention to quit smoking. In contrast, nicotine dependence and perceived barriers were found to be negatively associated with the intention to quit.

The study provides important findings for the development of accessible, inclusive, and target-group-specific smoking cessation interventions for deaf and hard-of-hearing young adults.

The research article was published in Volume 7, Issue 227, August 2026 of the Karya Journal of Health Science.

We congratulate Assist. Prof. Deniz Şarlak on this valuable scientific contribution and wish her continued success in her academic endeavors.
