Vpn Connection

What is VPN?

A VPN is a networking technology that allows users to securely access their corporate resources over public networks such as the Internet. Encrypted, virtual connections established over the UCI/VPN service; It allows you to access the services (Software Server Access, Access to Licensed Programs, Licensing, etc.) that can be used in UCI/NET while you are off-campus. When you use the AKU/VPN service while off-campus, your computer is automatically assigned an UCI/NET IP address. This IP address allows you to use the services provided only in UCI/NET.

When you enable the UCI/VPN connection, an encrypted tunnel is created between your computer and UCI/NET. Although this connection is encrypted by UCIVPN; we recommend that you pay attention to the security procedures to be followed in the internet environment (use of firewall, up-to-date anti-virus program, etc.). The passwords you use to set up a VPN connection are the ones that should belong only to you. You should not share these passwords with anyone.

1-) Academic VPN

Academic VPN service is a service that all UCIacademic staff can benefit from. The username and password to be used in the VPN service are within the AKÜ Single Sign On system. UCIusers can also benefit from the VPN service with the same user name and password they use for the UCI/Mail service. This service is provided over the Cisco AnyConnect infrastructure using the SSL protocol. Academic VPN can serve up to 1000 people at the same time. During the use of academic VPN, all internet access of our members is realized through UCI/ NET. For this reason, they can access academic databases from anywhere in the world as they connect from within UCIcampuses. Of this service, only

UCI academic staff can benefit. There is no need to apply for an academic-VPN service. If the user wishes, he/she can turn on/off his/her Academic VPN service via UCI Portal. All members of the Academic VPN service are deemed to have accepted the VPN Usage Policy.

AKU Information Technologies Department provides two separate VPN services to provide secure access to AKU/NET from outside the campus.

2-) Student VPN

At the beginning of the 2022-2023 academic year, VPN authorization has been defined for all AKU students. Our students can connect via VPN. Our graduate students are not included in this scope.

Student VPN service can only be used to access UCI/NET. For example, software that can be operated through license servers at UCI can be operated remotely. In case of using this service, only the data going to UCI /NET is transferred through the VPN tunnel. Student VPN service cannot connect to academic databases. Students who want to use library resources and academic databases with off-campus access should use the off-campus access address of the relevant database on the databases page of the UCI Library and Documentation Department website. All members of the Student VPN service are deemed to have accepted the VPN Usage Policy.
