History of the Library

Library History

Ada Kent University Library was established in 2016 within the campus of  University of City Island in Famagusta district of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and started its activities.

The building is located on the 3rd floor. On an area of 750 m² on its floor, it aims to serve in the best way on the national and international platform.  With a work desk for 120 people, it has 10,200 printed books in 804 open shelf requests, more than 30,000 electronic magazines and books, 5 individual group study rooms, and a user safety deposit cabinet for 40 people and is a world-class cultural and information access center. There is also a 190 m² terrace area on the Library floor that users can use as a free living space.

In addition, our library, which also has computers, aims to serve in the best way with wireless (WIFI) internet, wall sockets, special rest areas.

In terms of educational service, it provides borrowing-giving, printed and electronic resource use, user training service, Application and Information Service, Interlibrary cooperation service, referral service to research tools, Library Automation System service, provision of printed and electronic information resources according to the needs of our university, shelf and photocopying service with expert professional librarian management. All our students and guests benefit from our library service free of charge.

Following the approval of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) of our University in June 2018, our library started to benefit from the services of the National Academic License of Electrical Resources (EKUAL) and provided a comprehensive research environment for users.

In AKU Library, in accordance with the science of Librarianship and International standards;   AACR2 (Anglo-American Cataloging Rules) cataloging rules and LC (Library of Congress) classification system are applied.
KOHA program, which is one of the web-based automation systems, is used in our library and our users can access the bibliographic imprints of library resources from the catalog search page within our web page.

Shelf layout is an open shelf system according to this classification system. In these services, AKU Library aims to provide its users with easy access to the publications they are looking for.
